  8. When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." Luke 22.14-16  Lord’s Supper

  9. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. "I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God." When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.   10. “On the day called Sunday…when we cease from our prayer, bread is presented and wine and water. The ‘president’ in the same manner sends up prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people sing out their assent, saying the “Amen.” A distribution and participation of the elements for which thanks have been given to each person is shared.” This is taken from the earliest recorded Christian assembly, written by Justin Martyr, c.150 AD.   11. Over time, a rich tradition of fellowship can devolve into the poor substitute of ‘ritual.’ ‘Ritualization’ of the Lord’s Supper can strip it of it’s meaning and purpose, leaving only ‘The Lowest Common Denominator.’
