College Credit Plus is an initiative by the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Higher Education to allow high school students to attain college credit up to 30 semester hours per school year tuition free at Ohio public institutions and a reduced cost at private institutions. Interested parents and students should attend the College Credit Plus Information Night on February 4, 2016 at 6:30 PM in the Hayes Auditorium to learn about how to qualify as well as benefits and risks.

Consider transferability of ALL courses taken for college credit.

College Credit Plus Resources • College courses may be taken at participating College Credit Plus institutions provided that the student meets the admission criteria of the institution and non-remediation. For a full listing of courses offered, please review the course catalog on the institution’s website. • For additional information on the College Credit Plus program, visit https://www.ohiohighered.org/college_credit_plus.

  12. College Admissions • Current juniors, take ACT or SAT this spring. Pick up practice tests in the Counseling Office. Register on-line ASAP. • Include colleges on your registration – many are now requiring official scores. • Junior College Info Night this Spring! • Visit colleges between now and next fall. • Apply by December 2016 or sooner! • FAFSA now opening October 2016!

AP vs CCP • AP • College Level • Can be used for “credit by exam” • Test score, not grade determines credit • Year Long • Standard Curriculum • Good for out-of-state, highly selective • Weighted grade • CCP • College course/Dual credit • Transfers to any public college, most private colleges in Ohio • Grade determines credit • Some year long, some semester • Good for in-state, students who are sure of direction • Weighted grade

Valedictorian & Salutatorian • GPA’s can be over 4.0 • For the Classes of 2016, & 2017: • Valedictorian - students who have a 4.1 GPA and 3 AP classes. • Salutatorian - students who have a 4.0 GPA and 2 AP classes. • For the Class of 2018 & Beyond: • Valedictorian – the student with the highest GPA. • Salutatorian – the student with the second highest GPA.

New for 2016-2017 • Robotics - .5 credit • Business Calculus is now Calculus • Chemistry Accelerated is now Chemistry Honors • Physics Honors (AP Physics 1 no longer available) • Accounting is Finance Accounting (CCP Pending) • Project Management and Supply Chain Systems (CCP) • Extended Study Art not offered during House, independent study as can be arranged during study hall • College Prep Math • Earth Science in now Environmental Science which includes Environmental Science: Ecology (.5), Physical Geology (.5) and/or Environmental Science: Human Impact (.5) • Sophomore Journalism will be offered next year

  17. Study Hall Option QUALIFICATIONS • Study Hall Option is available to students in Grades 10 – 12 who want to arrive after 1st period or leave for last period. • Students must take a course for college credit or an AP course to qualify.

  18. Credit Flex • Alternative ways to earn a credit: • Accredited Online Vendor Course • Independent Study • Test Out of a Course

  19. DropPolicy • Students will only be able to drop courses ONE time during their high school career without penalty after the first two weeks of the start of a course. A “W” indicating Withdrawal from the course will be entered on the transcript. This does not affect the GPA. • All courses dropped after this option is used will result in an F. This will be entered on the transcript and will affect the GPA.

  20. Dates to Remember • All course selections and applications are due February 22nd! Students will NOT be added to courses requiring applications without a completed application being submitted. • Schedules will be released in August at Schedule Pick-up. • Any requests to change course selections must be submitted to your school counselor by August 16th. After this date, students will need to remain in their assigned classes for 3 days before making any changes.

  22. Scheduling Online • Students should input their course selections online through their Power School account by their scheduling day in English (February 8-23) • Log into Power School and click the Course Registration/Request link to access the selection portal.
