HOT ISSUES Cell Curtains will soon be installed on all open bar cells. They will be on the outside of the cells so we will have control if need be. They will not cover the lock or food slot and will leave approx 2/3 of the door open. According to Cousins, we are one of the last jails in the country to utilize these curtains. Ted Cousins has informed the union that he is going to ask CX to help install the curtains because Cathy Wherry does not have enough staff to do it. The union has expressed it’s opposition to having these curtains. Helping install these curtains is not in our job description nor is it a security function. Why would we assist with something we do not agree with. Multi-function Officer- is not to be used in an 8 hr post. This officer CANNOT be sent outside the institution. For example external escort. We use this officer in an eight hour post on 1CD because it is needed but it should be used to do their job as a multi-function officer. Deployment standards- Gaston and Angela had a meeting with Dan Erickson NHQ and Lori MacDonald RHQ on February 9,2010. At this meeting were told that we were more than likely getting 6CX. This still has to go to EXCOM. We do not anticipate any problems.

MEETING UPDATES OVERTIME HIRING POLICY- A meeting will be scheduled to discuss a memo that will go to the CMs giving them clear guidelines on hiring overtime. We will have this meeting before March 8, 2010. TRAINING-STATS SEEM TO BE INCORRECT- The spreadsheet that was generated came from the staff college not from the staff training officers. The stats are generated from HRMS. This is going to Regional Labour Management. PAYMENT OF STATS, OT AND SHIFT DIFF- Lynn King was at the meeting and gave us a memo from compensation dated 2005. The memo will be made available to everyone. Lynn stated that everything at RTC is being submitted on time and the problem is at compensation. DEPLOYMENT STANDARDS- Meeting set up with Pat Laverty and Ted Cousins for March 9, 2010. MOU FOR SENIROITY- Pat Laverty will resend the MOU to Ted Cousins, Josh Bowen, Kathy Hinch and Gerry Henderson.
MEETING UPDATES CONT'D FIRST AID KITS AND EYE WASH STATIONS- Brian Joyce has directed Kathy Wherry to get first aid kits and Laura Kilius has been asked to look after getting the eye wash stations replenished. AMBU BAG TRAINING FOR CX- Mary Ann Dundas states that we do not have Ambu bags in the institution and if we did she does not agree with their use. She believes that the masks we have are better than ambu bags. Kathy Hinch does not want to give training that other institutions are not giving. BALLISTIC VESTS- UCCO-SACC-CSN thanked Dan McGrath for all the work that he did on getting the ballistic vest in a very timely manner. FIRST RESPONDERS- Ted will be sending out an e-mail again on who the first responders are. This will change again when 2C opens and when we implement the deployment standards. C7 1st FLOOR RADIO AND PPAs-The radio will be taken upstairs when the program area closes for the day. There will be a charger upstairs for this radio. The PPAs will be removed from the 1st floor and put in the SCO.
MEETING UPDATES CONT'D RETIREMENT- Gerry Henderson is retiring April 29, 2010 MENTORING PROGRAM- The management team would like to put a mentorship program together at RTC. We could possibly be getting 12 new officers in the next little while. We are getting 2 new Correctional Managers; Roy Lee – middle of March and Mike Wells - June . We are going to sit with management to discuss this further.

JUST 4 FUN! NEWFIE JOKE OF THE DAY An airliner is coming into land at an airport obscured by fog. Visibility is practically nil, the ILS system is on the blink, so the newfie pilot has to land on wits alone. "Flaps, check," he says to the co-pilot, "Landing Gear, check. Altitude, check. Right, we're going in. Hold on." The plane lands and comes to a screeching, grinding halt; just short of the edge of the runway. "Holy Cow!" exclaims the pilot, "This must be the shortest runway I've ever landed on!" The newfie co-pilot looks left and right and says "Yeah, and about the widest, too ..."
