Initial Questioning • Choose subject area: • Which subject area is of most personal interest to you? Is there something you are especially curious about in one of your IB courses? • Choose a topic of interest: • I want to learn about __________________________. • Suggest a question: • I am studying ______________________ because I want to find out (who, what, when, where, whether, why or how) • Evaluate your question: • I am studying __________________ because I want to find out ____________________________ in order to understand (how, why or whether) • Restate your question using a different command term • Review with student • Reflect
Initial questioning Why does this interest you? Why do you care? ~look for their passion Students come to me with 2-3 topics. What do you hope to learn about this topic? ~engage their curiosity

Is it academically worthy? ~reiterate appropriate sources Is there a plethora of information? Is the topic over analyzed? ~an abundance of information may not be a ‘bad” thing
