Hippocrates • Greeks believed we were filled with humors • Fluids within the body. • Yellow: Choleric – quick tempered • Blood: Sanguine – cheerful • Phlegm: Phlegmatic – sluggish or cool • Black: Melancholic – thoughtful
Gordon Allport • 1930’s • Assumed all traits are inherited and that they are fixed to the nervous system. • Traits are the building blocks of personality. • Behavior is a combination of traits.
Hans Eysenck • People are Introverts/Extroverts , Stable/Unstable • Introverts – imaginative, look inward • Extroverts – active, self-expressive • Stable – reliable, composed, and rational • Unstable – agitated, unpredictable.
