Tsinghua U.January 2010Experience with LEP and its meaning for the Linear Collider Ron Settles MPI-Munich Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Outline of talks • 1 What physics do we want to do, where? • 2a,b What is the best detector? • 3 The LCTPC • 4 Machine and global issues Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Talk #2b • What is the best detector? Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Best detector? • The starting point… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Now we shall take a look at the subdetectors… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
TPC Performance goals. RD question: • How was the subdetector optimized? • ILD subdetectors must be optimized coherently by present optimization studies, for the TPC, this means: σ_pt <~100diffμm (rφ) Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Inner Detectors back to Machine since this is complicated real-estate where MDI, machine and detector elements are critical… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Each part of FD cryostats will have movers to align Cryostats as a whole(?), And support parts of FD Cryostats may need to be equipped with optical or mechanical lock-in systems, to minimize their relative motion on nm level. Steel Yoke (no yoke for 4th) Antisolenoid Solenoid BeamCal ECal HCal Low Z Mask TPC or Si Tracker FD Cryostats Detectors Working progress John Amann, et al LumiCal Vertex Detector IP Chamber Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Combination of detector and machine elements.“Detector view of MDI”? Nanobeam02 paper… Many very correlated tasks!! Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
In preparing this talk, I noticed the different ways to categorize… Karsten Buesser CLIC talk: Nanobeam 02 paper: • vibration, optics, instrumentatn, background, engineering Andrei Seryi IRENG07: Yasuhiro Sugimoto, Toshiaki Tauchi, Karsten Buesser et al ILD MDI/Integration list: • IR issues/tasks • Detector Integration tasks • Push-pull issues/tasks Many subitems under each point, my favorite brkdown Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Combining MDI/Integration makes a lot of sense, as the IRENG07 workshop, the ILD task list and Andrei’s/Toshiaki’s lists today show, maybe something like: • Vibration—det&hall design to avoid unwanted (μm-mm!) vibrations • Optics—machine, BDS design/layout (details in Andrei’s and Toshiaki’s talks today) • Instrumentation/diagnostics—fast feedback,beamcal e.g. • Background—beam induced bgrd,inner detector design • Engineering— • Detector design/integration • MDI magnets (antiDID) • IR hall/push-pull design (Andrei’s talk today) • Shielding • Etc… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
LOI, remaining points… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Conclusion? No conclusion… Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
Next talk:the LCTPC Ron Settles MPI-Munich 2b.Tsinghua Jan. 2010
