Vote! . . . and Mail it in! • Referendum 52 – Healthy Schools (WSPTA: Neutral) • Initiative 1098 – High Income Tax (WSPTA: Support) • Initiative 1107 – Repeal of Bottle/Soda/Candy Tax (WSPTA:Opposed) The Good News . . . New Business • 2010 Annual Financial Review Report • Election of voting delegates to WA PTA Leg Assembly • Re-approve 2010 – 2011 budget • $2,000 Restricted Art Fund Discussion & Vote • Designated Funds – are established when the PTA adopts/approves a motion to set aside funds for a specific purpose. Modifications or eliminations to a designated fund must be voted on by the same group that created it. For example, if the general membership created the designated fund, they are the only ones that can vote to change it. • Standing Rules – review & vote
Mission Statement & Goals Arrowhead Elementary PTA will promote the welfare of all students, provide staff support, foster teacher and parent/community cooperation and enrich student learning. See Back of Agenda for Goals that support the mission statement
Measurable Goals • Grow “Greener” • Reduce paper consumption by 30% • Move newsletter online by January 2011 • Reduce the number of weekly stand-a-lone flyers introducing new weekly Hawk Highlights format • General Membership Meeting • Increase attendance by 25% • Make the meetings more accessible to all by starting at 6:30pm and having free child care and great food! • Commit to ending on time • Partner with the school on a shared goal • School is evaluating • Partner with another PTA in the Puget Sound on an event or drive – ties into National PTA goals of being more diverse. • Ideas – working on this – will keep you updated.
Oct. 5, 2011 – General Membership Meeting – Arrowhead PTA 6.10.5 President’s Message • Training • Leadership Training in August in Vancouver, WA. Main take away = importance of being trained, attending PTA & the Law, networking and getting great ideas. • Outgoing & Incoming Board Retreats = Board spend about 10 hours transitioning this summer and preparing for the new year. • PTA & The Law = 3 people are trained, 3 more getting trained next week (October 12th) = EVERYBODY IS WELCOMED! It’s FREE! • Region 6 Training last weekend in September. Learned about the Common Core Standards Initiative (CCSI). • effort designed to improve educational outcomes for students by developing a set of common, voluntary, internationally-benchmarked academic standards in mathematics and English language arts. • (http://www.pta.org/common_core_state_standards.asp)
Upcoming Dates ENRICHMENT CLUBS Chess, Drama & Art started, French & Spanish start next week 10 /5 (Tues.) – Read-a-Thon starts(runs for 3 weeks) 10 /6 (Wed.) – Walk To School Day (national event) 10/7 (Thurs.) – Movie Night (K – 3rd grade theme – anyone welcome – movie is Up) 10/8 (Fri.) - 11:30am – Staff Appreciation lunch (Student Planning Day – no school) 10/8 & 10/9 - WA State PTA Legislative Assembly
