  3. John Wilkes Booth An actor and strong Confederate supporter Grew tired of acting and worked for an underground Confederate network Hated Lincoln because he believed he was a tyrant and planned on punishing the South after the Civil War

  4. The Plot Booth 1st planned to kidnap Lincoln and bring him to Richmond Just happened to pick up his paycheck at Ford’s theatre and heard that Lincoln was attending a play there that night Him and 2 other accomplices planned to kill Lincoln, Secretary of State William Seward, and Vice President Andrew Johnson

April 14, 1865 President Lincoln and his wife Mary went to Ford’s Theatre in D.C. to see the play “My American Cousin” Booth came up to Lincoln’s balcony and shot him behind the left ear Booth jumped from the balcony onto the stage, broke his ankle and shouted “Sic semper tyrannis”=“Thus always to tyrants”

  6. Aftermath William Seward was injured, but not killed The man in charge of killing Johnson chickened out Booth escaped but was found 12 days later and accidentally shot and killed by a Union soldier

  7. Lincoln’s Death After being shot, Lincoln was taken across the street Edwin Stanton, Secretary of War, ordered the manhunt of Booth Lincoln died the morning after he was shot
