3. ผลประโยชน์แอบแฝงมหาศาลด้านโทรคมนาคมอีกหนึ่งสาเหตุในการเร่งแปรรูป กฟผ. ในระบบสายส่งไฟฟ้าแรงสูงของ กฟผ.ไม่ว่าจะเป็น 230 KV, 500 KV หรือ 115 KV สายส่งนี้สอดไส้ตรงแกน กลางด้วยใยแก้วนำแสงหรือที่เรียกว่าไฟเบอร์ออฟติคส์(fiber optics) หรือออฟติเคิลไฟเบอร์(optical fiber) ซึ่งสามารถส่งสัญญาณได้จำนวนมหาศาล สายส่งของ กฟผ.เป็นแค่สายหลัก หรือ "trunk line" หรือ "backbone" เท่านั้น จึงยังไม่ถึงบ้านแต่ถ้าเราผนวกกับสายซึ่งเป็นสายทองแดงของการไฟฟ้านครหลวงและการไฟฟ้าส่วนภูมิภาคเข้าไปก็จะถึงทุกบ้านช่อง รวม 15 ล้านครัวเรือน ต่อไปสายทองแดงจะไม่เพียงนำกระแสไฟฟ้าเท่านั้นยังสามารถที่จะนำสัญญาณโทรศัพท์ สัญญาณอินเตอร์เน็ตเข้ามาด้วย อันนี้เราเรียกว่าBPLหรือชื่อเต็มว่า "Broadband over Power Line" หรือ "Power Line Communication" ใครก็ตามที่เป็นเจ้าของโครงข่าย กฟผ.บวก กฟน. บวก กฟภ. นี้ก็คือคนที่จะเป็นเจ้าของโครงข่ายโทรคมนาคม ที่สมบูรณ์ที่สุดของประเทศ

Broadband Over Power Line is a system that is being tested to provide broadband Internet service via power lines. Radio energy is coupled onto power lines and is distributed into homes. A device in the home plugs into a normal wall outlet and typically provides an Ethernet connection to a computer or home network.
