The Challenges: • Leaving behind a CMS faculty love • Getting buy-in from administrators, faculty, and staff • Training 400 faculty (by myself or not?) on 13 geographically dispersed campuses • Motivating faculty to CHANGE! July 26, 2005 - Fellows
Communicating for Change • One year before the new CMS was available, our faculty were notified of a coming change. (Email is my best friend! ) • Faculty were encouraged to gather their files they use in Blackboard on a file server or their computer • All Blackboard courses faculty requested for archiving were burned to DVD. July 26, 2005 - Fellows
How The Change Was Sold • Faculty were all invited to participate in the review of possible CMS’s. • Many loved what they saw! • Training of the 13 campus instructional technology support staff • provided with a curriculum for training • Faculty had local support and a new helpdesk too! July 26, 2005 - Fellows
How The Change Was Sold (2) • Innovative faculty were invited to pilot the new CMS in Summer and Fall 2003. • Their positive experiences were shared in all communications with other faculty for the next two years. • On-site training and web conferencing were used to train faculty • focus on Best Practices! July 26, 2005 - Fellows
New Professional Development Opportunities! • We focus on Instructional Design and ask faculty to “rethink how they teach” and “How will the CMS improve your course?” • We are encouraging effective use of tools to enhance the learning experience • The helpdesk is doing the point and click support • This summer I am conducting two-day Instructional Design workshops July 26, 2005 - Fellows
Measuring Success • Anecdotal evidence – what our faculty are saying! “I am so excited about using D2L for assessment”. D. Budde • In 27 trainings I have had over 500 faculty attend since May 2003. July 26, 2005 - Fellows
