  39. All Defenses Coverage Rules • Zone – You cover a space not a man. If 4 receivers are in your zone you protect the zone • Zone – CB start head up on line of scrimmage, 3 steps back on first sound, drop to center of zone on snap, KEEP EYES IN BACKFIELD ON QB • Man to Man – Knockdown/Holdup receiver at line if you are physically superior, give 4-6 yard cushion if receiver is faster than DB • Man to Man you cover a man and not a space and cover all over the field until the whistle blows or you know the play is going elsewhere • “Base” means line up on the line of scrimmage (LOS) • “Cushion” means line up 3 yards off the LOS • “Back” (or “Corners Back”) line up 10 yards off the LOS • Defense must talk on the field • QB raises arm to throw, whole says “PASS PASS PASS!!!” • QB throws the ball, whole says “BALL BALL BALL!!!” • Our Defense intercepts whole says “PICK PICK PICK!!!” • When we intercept the whole defense must BLOCK!
