Direct competitors • Takechi's Jewelers • Brodkey's • Malashock's Jewelry Co • Competitors include those on the list above and all other big chain jewelers in malls and elsewhere.
Target Market & Position • The market is two-target: to sell new items of jewelry, watches, and gifts and to create or repair diverse types of jewelry, including watches and rings, employing seven design and repair technicians.
Its strategy compared to its competitors • To give very personal customer service, create unique jewelry, and repair jewelry.
Competitive Advantages • Personal service and quick turnaround for jewelry repairs is their advantages. Custom made items made in the store. Not having to send out to get items repaired. Being able to work with the person making your items.
Retail mix • JR Jewelry and Gift catalogs show a broad selection of jewelry with web access as well as offering custom made jewelry. Prices may tend to be a bit higher than at a chain store or similar merchant. Good location (right across the street from Nebraska Furniture Market, which does a brisk business most of the time) improves the attraction of product seekers as well. Easy access off a major east/west road and good parking in a strip mall also add to the draw.
SWOT • The strengths of the store are personal service, location, number of repair people, and the ability to make custom jewelry. Its weaknesses and threats are its small size and isolation and their vulnerability to the ability of other jewelry stores to get more repair people, or the potential to lose contracts for doing repair work for major chain stores. To maximize assets (opportunities) the business would need to acquire one or two more stores in diverse areas of town, like the west and north parts of town, for instance.
