  1. ON-LINE CATALOGUE WELCOME TO OUR GUIDE Why, where, what and how? Next page

  2. How can we help?  In our guide we present different methods of searching and explain what can be seen on the computer screen.  Search paths are mainly similar. Each part of the guide provides examples of how you can find the book you need.  We do not show every possibility: our guide is meant mainly for beginners. WHY should we start searching from an on-line catalogue? • In the card catalogue there are no catalogue records for items received after 1997. • There are no call numbers (Library of Congress Classification) in card catalogues. Thus, you can not find a book in the open stacks. • In the on-line catalogue you can check the location of the book and, if it is checked out, you can reserve it. • You can now order books and serials available in the Reading Room and at the Circulation Desk directly from the on-line catalogue Previous page Next page

  3. WHERE is the catalogue? • Internet: http:\\katalog.buw.uw.edu.pl • Main Library building: terminals on the 1st and 2nd levels (look for VTLS icon) WHAT can we find here? • All books held in open stacks • Books received after 1994 • Books published between 1980 and 1994 (for this period catalogue is incomplete: you can not search by subject) • Other books and serials in process of being added • Early imprints - 15th and 16th centuries (letters A and B) • Some items from departmental libraries HOW can we search? • By author • By title (book or serial) • By subject • By keyword (word from catalogue record, e.g. part of title) • By call number Previous page ESC Return to index By: M.
