INFORMATICA AND DATA LOADING CHANGES Presented by Jeanie McCleary 27 July 2010
Why Informatica? Why now? • Informatica Data Flow Diagram • Informatica Six Step Data Quality Process • Cleanup of Existing DMHRSi Data • What Does This Mean for MEPRS • Questions
Why Informatica? Why Now? • Informatica enables organizations to gain a competitive advantage in today’s global information economy by empowering companies with timely, relevant and trustworthy data • The way that data is loaded from the source systems into DMHRSi is being redefined – Informatica • Currently DMHRSi human resources data is all over the map, it changes daily • Source data will be more trustworthy • This means that we will not be able to make the data show what we want • MEPRS will have to adapt to what the source system data is
INFORMATICA DATA FLOW DIAGRAM External Source Systems Personnel (NES, OPINS, RHS, MODS, MILPDS, DCPDS), Manpower (AMPPS, MPES, TAADS) Deployment (PROFIS) Step 1 Interface Files DMHRSi Production Step 4 Data loaded to DMHRSi DB via API wrapper DMHRSi DB Step 2 Informatica performs Data quality process INFA PowerCenter 8.6.1 Informatica Staging Tables Step 3 Informatica Transforms and Loads Staging Tables Informatica
CLEANUP OF EXISTING DMHRSi DATA • Source System Rules • Most cleanup will be done by Informatica because “Source System Rules” will automatically cleanup data going forward. • Source data will not be available prior to go-live so prior history will not be cleaned up. • Recommend EAS processing be kept fully up to date prior to go-live.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MEPRS? • Rules are currently being defined to identify which human resource fields sites will be able to update and the fields that will be locked so sites won’t be able to update them • Currently all fields can be updated, that will not be the case under Informatica • Every effort is being made to ensure the transition will not corrupt the past data • Transition is currently scheduled for October 2010 • This change will impact MEPRS – more information will be forwarded as we get closer to the implementation date
