  4. TEST When ? • Every day • If period is spent taking test, reflect on test -How do you feel you performed? -What areas do you feel you need to re-study? -What was the most difficult part? Why? -What could you do before the test to improve your score?

  5. Absent? • You are still responsible for daily notes • Get notes from a reliable student in class • Write: “I was absent today so I got the notes from FIRST and LAST NAME.” • Copy notes by hand—NO PHOTOCOPIES!

  6. Right Column • Notes • When class starts • Specific information • Abbreviations • Paraphrase ? w/o w/ $ & % # < > b/c

  7. INFO INFO Right Column • Symbols (arrows, circles, underlines, etc.) or highlight • Most important information or ideas • Diagrams, graphics, charts, when relevant • Skip lines

  8. Left Column • Questions: • Within 24 hours • Study questions • Labels, categories, headings

  9. Left Column • Questions to clarify information • Essay questions • Symbols, pictures, charts

  10. Reflection Questions • What did I do in class today? • What did I learn? • What did I find most interesting? • What questions do I have? • What was the point of today’s lesson? • What connections can I make to previous learning?

  11. Study • Fold paper so that only the left column is showing and answer questions • Quiz by yourself or in groups • Summarize at bottom of notes • Compare notes with study group

  13. Active Listening • Think about what is being said rather than just writing it down • Think about how it relates to other information

  14. Speaker Organization & Style • How is the subject organized? • Forecast phrases • “Today we are going to learn about…” • “The importance of this event is…” • Emphasizes important points • Slow down, Repeat, Volume, Introductory Phrase, Write, Gesture, Visual Aid
