What is an allegory? A form of extended metaphor in which objects, persons, and actions in a narrative are equated with meanings that lie outside of the narrative itself. The underlying meaning has a moral, social, religious or political significance In the oldest type of allegories, the characters usually personify abstract qualities such as charity, happiness, greed. So, an allegory is a story with two meanings, a literal meaning and symbolic one.
