Acupuncture • An ancient Chinese method to control health and pain • Practiced in China & Orient 5000 years • Inserting needles to different points in different meridians (energy channels) • Works by stimulating the various points in the body which are pathway for “QI” to flow • A person is healthy when energy is smooth and in balance • Ill or pain if the balance is disturbed

  3. Acupressure • Is type of bodywork based on the same concept as acupuncture • Releases the tension in muscle fibers • Similarities and difference to acupuncture • Similarities and differences to body message

Points to control backpain… • ShenShu( 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra) • YaoYang Guan (below the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra) • FeiYang(7 cun directly above KunLun) • MingMen(below the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra) • ZhiShi(3 cun laterial to the lower border of the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra) • Taixi (between the medial malleolus and tendo calcaneus) Note: cun = measuring with fingers

Lavender (Lavandula Augustifolia) Properties: analgesic, antidepressant, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, antibacterial, decongestant, emmenagogue, nervine, sedative, tonic. • Balancing qualities- mind and body so that healing can occur. • Excellent pain reliever that can be used in massage blends for tired/aching muscles. Lavender has been credited with the ability to reduce headaches.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) Properties:Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antineuralgic, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, insecticidal, parasiticidal. • Can alleviate rheumatism, including rheumatoid arthritis. It can be used in a blend to soothe aching and sore muscles; can be especially helpful when muscle strains are present. • Can help to increase concentration and memory.

NEVER apply undiluted essential oils to the skin. Use a ‘carrier oil’ such as grapeseed, coconut, or jojoba oil. When creating an aromatic massage blend, use about fifteen to twenty drops of pure essential oil for every ounce of carrier oil.

  8. Nutrition Healing cont.. • Diet low in saturated fats and simple carbohydrates • A minimum of five types of plant food per day and the size of each serving is half-cup • Protein (lean poultry, seafood, egg whites, and low-fat dairy products)

  9. Nutrition Healing cont. • Fat: restrict to less than 10% of our total calories • Water: at least 8 glasses(64 ounces) of water a day to maintain our fluid balance • Avoid: alcohol, cigarettes, too much of caffeine intakes and sweet
