The Name of Acts • ½ of Luke/Acts, known as “A History of Christian Origins” • By 2nd century known as “The Acts of the Apostles” • Actually “Some of the Acts of Some of the Apostles” • Since 4th Century – “Acts of the Holy Spirit”
Recipient • Theophilus = “Loved of God” (Luke 1:1-4; Acts 1:1) • A wealthy patron • Eventually to more than one person – to the whole church (Philemon, 1 & 2 Timothy, and Titus were to more than just individuals)
