  3. Partner Share • When explorers go spelunking, they need to bring tools and equipment. Think about what you need in a dark, underground place. What would you bring to go spelunking? • Think about what a tremor below the earth might lead to. What do you imagine might happen when the earth shakes?

  4. Amazing Words • Unfathomable- unable to be understood • What places in the universe are still unfathomable? • Coexist- means to live together peacefully despite differences • Our cat and dog coexist. • Teach your partner these words.

  5. Adjectives • With a partner: • form 5 comparative adjectives by adding –r or –er to a short adjective or more to a long adjective. • Form 5 superlative adjectives by adding –est to a short adjective or most to a long adjective

  6. Word Analysis • -ous, -eous, -ious: • Grace • Courage • Joy

  7. Vocabulary • Armor- protective coverings • The knight was ready for battle under his shiny armor. • Encases- encloses • The rock encases the minerals. • Teach your partner these words.

  8. Vocabulary • Extinct- no longer existing • The dodo bird is extinct. • Hideous-ugly • A bat has a really hideous face. • Teach your partner these words.

  9. Vocabulary • Plunged-moved downward • The bird plunged into the cold water. • Serpent- snake • She saw a serpent coiled up in the tree. • Teach your partner these words.
