TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator About the TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator: • The TDR 2040 allows technicians to locate faults in a cable, and to measure the length of cable runs. • The cable fault locator measures cable line voltage.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator About the TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator: • The on-board tone generator allows tracing of hidden cable runs. • The TDR 2040 is compatible with all common cable types. • The TDR 2040 has zero dead zone, enabling it to locate faults or measure cable length immediately adjacent to the cable fault locator.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator The Following Functions can be Performed with the TDR 2040: • The TDR 2040 measures the cable length (up to 2500 feet, ± 2% accuracy) and indicates the distance to a fault. • Line voltage is monitored. • The TDR 2040 will overlay one of four tones in the cable for tracing hidden runs with a standard probe.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator Measuring Cable Length: • Press the F1 key to display the “Length” screen. • The screen will display the distance to the end of the cable. • Note: For the length measurement to be accurate, the type of cable and Nvp (nominal velocity of propagation) must be correctly set up, in the TDR 2040’s Setup menu.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator Checking for a Fault: • Press the F1 key to display the “Length” screen. • The screen will display “Open” or “Short,” depending on which condition exists. • The screen will display distance to the open/short condition. • Note: Splitters are displayed as an open condition by the TDR. The distance to the splitter is displayed.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator Checking Line Voltage: • Connect the TDR 2040 to a cable source then press the PWR key to turn the TDR on. • The line voltage is displayed in the upper-right corner of the “Mode” screen. • Note: If the line voltage exceeds 6 volts, disconnect the power to the TDR 2040 to prevent damage.
TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator Using the Tone Function: • Press the F2 key to display the “Tone” screen. • Use the UP/DOWN and F2 keys to select and confirm a tone pattern. • Press the F1 key to exit from the “Tone” screen. • The TDR 2040 will now generate the selected tone pattern.
