Purpose of MHPN The purpose of MHPN is to support the development of sustainable inter-disciplinary collaboration in the local primary mental health care sector • MHPN will offer small, collaborative, semi-structured, interdisciplinary workshops to groups of Better Access mental health practitioners in a geographic area across Australia • It is aimed that, by way of the initial workshop, networks created, will, in the main, be self sustaining.
Purpose of MHPN Funded via the Better Access initiative our purpose is two fold: • Create initial local networking opportunities • Build sustainability

MHPN Advisory Group Purpose to act as an expert resource which can support the implementation of the project by providing recommendations and feedback on matters relating to: • Planning and delivery of workshops • Establishment and maintenance of ongoing networks • Revision of workshop materials • Evaluation of the project • Usability of web portal • Consultation with other stakeholders
Workshops • Local interdisciplinary workshops with case based discussion on the collaborative delivery of mental health care. • Approx 3 hours duration, including a meal (b’fast or dinner) • Facilitated by local MH professional • Up to 20 participants per workshop • Mix of, at least, two professional disciplines • 1,200 over a 2 year period
Workshops • Participant eligibility: • Better Access providers • Public mental health practitioners • Facilitator eligibility • Facilitation skills • Local provider • MH credibility
Workshops At the completion of the initial workshop participants will be able to: • recognise the specific skill sets that the other mental health professions in their local area offer • identify local mental health referral pathways and resources • identify opportunities for on-going professional development and mutual support
Incentives • Private practice participants in the first MHPN will be remunerated $150 for their attendance at the first workshop. • Facilitators will be remunerated $500 for the first workshop. • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points attached to initial workshop for each discipline
Facilitators • Looking for local people to facilitate • Preferably people with a mental health background (does not have to be a doctor) • Of key importance is skills in facilitation • Someone to bring local knowledge & increase opportunity for sustainability

Case study • Facilitators select one case study for the first session • New case studies will need to be written to suit particular populations • MHPN Advisory Group will offer the interdisciplinary clinical expertise with input from local people
