MMEL Authoring – Boeing Perspective Bob Borst Flight Operations Engineering Boeing Commercial Airplanes December 19, 2007
MMEL Authoring - Boeing Perspective • The need to Work Together to collectively improve and harmonize our MMEL authoring process has become more urgent • There is a long-term need to move toward MMEL “content” publishing (XML) and move away from “document” publishing • There is a near-term need (and probably a long-term need) to have a MMEL Word template that: • Can be efficiently authored by the airline industry • Can be efficiently reviewed/approved by regulatory agencies • Can be readily digested by airline industry authoring systems • Does not conflict with our long-term MMEL content publishing (XML) objectives
MMEL Authoring - Boeing Perspective • Harmonize existing MMEL authoring process to allow MMEL administrative authoring by airline industry and review/approval by regulatory agencies • Refine existing MMEL Word template to: • Reduce administrative content • Remove Preamble and Definition content and only reference applicable Policy Letters • Eliminate “page based” formatting • Eliminate “table based” formatting • Simplify presentation of MMEL item content to better align with airline industry authoring systems and XML • Expand MMEL numbering scheme to identify sub items and multiple proviso options to better align with airline industry authoring systems and XML • Example MMEL Word template
