  3. Suicide Statistics • Average of 1 person dies by suicide every 14.2 minutes • Average of 1 young person (under 25) every 2 hours killed themselves • 3.7 male completions for each female completion • 10th leading cause of death, 3rd leading among young people

  4. Statistics cont. • 10th leading cause of death overall , 3rd leading cause for young • Homicide is the 15th leading cause of death in the U.S. – for every 3 homicides there are 5 suicides • More Americans die by their own hand than by the hand of another each year in the U.S.

  8. Intervening Ask the question. Are you having thoughts of suicide? Get Information. Do you have a plan? How? When? Where? Do you have the means? Stay calm and remain a source of help! Make a safe plan. Get other involved! Help the student and family connect with other resources.
