We cannot influence the visa process and kindly ask you to direct all queries to the Migration Board or the Embassy. It is important that you book your accommodation before arrival. More information about accommodation, as well as the contact details for other housing companies and temporary accommodation in Falun and Borlänge, can be found at www.du.se/welcome. TRANSPORTATION, PICK-UP SERVICE AND YOUTH HOSTELS As a service to our international students, we offer pick-up either from the local train stations in Falun and Borlänge, or from Dala Airport near Borlänge. This service runs between specific dates. Students will meet you and take you to the housing areas where you can register and access your pre-booked student accommodation. If you arrive in the evening, we will meet you and provide transport to the local youth hostel provided that you have made a reservation prior to your arrival. You can find information about youth hostels in Falun at www.visitfalunborlange.se and www.falufangelse.se; information about youth hostels in Borlänge at www.visitfalunborlange.se, www.haga.just.nu, www.borlangevandrarhem.se, and www.dalabackpackers.com; and information about youth hostels in Sweden at www.stfturist.se. To book the pick-up service, please fill out the pick-up service form on the website www.du.se/welcome two to three weeks (and no later than 24 hours) before your arrival and include your arrival date/time as well as your contact details. Our pick-up service is free of charge, and we do recommend that you use it. Information about transportation in Sweden can be found at www.sj.se and www.tagplus.se. FRONTER, MY PAGES AND ITUNES UNIVERSITY Fronter https://fronter.du.se/ is your learning platform on the web. Until you receive your student-user account and university email at Help Desk/IT-Support Office, you may log in as a guest and find information from teachers regarding such matters as schedules. On “My Pages”, you will receive news from the university. There are also a number of services offered on My Pages to help you as a student (course registration, print-out of secure certificates with electronic seal, credits awarded, personal address information, sign-up for exams, etc.). INTRODUCTION DAYS The 2013 autumn semester begins for international students on Monday August 26, 2013 with Introduction Days. Classes begin Monday, August 26, 2013. We advise all new students to arrive between Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25, 2013. More information about Introduction Days will be published on our website www.du.se/welcome. Participation in Introduction Days is mandatory for all international students.
ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014 Autumn semester 2013 (August 26, 2013 – January 19, 2014) and spring semester 2014 (January 20 – June 8, 2014) SIGN UP AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT – START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS Sign up as an International Student on Monday, August 26, 2013 respectively on Monday January 20, 2014 in Falun for Falun students and in Borlänge for Borlänge students. For more information, visit http://www.du.se/en/Student1/Welcome1/ HELP-DESK AND IT-SUPPORT OFFICE When you have signed up as an international student, you may apply for a user account and university email at the Help Desk/IT-Support Office. This can only be done 24 hours after you have signed up as an international student. See the Introduction Form for appointed time (this form will be handed out to students at the University Reception at the first stage of the registration process). COURSE REGISTRATION Please note that you must also register for every course on “My Pages” after you have received your university computer account. Registration can only be done between certain dates (normally two weeks before the first lecture). If you cannot register, please contact a Student Administrator for assistance: studieadm@du.se. STUDENT UNION AND INTERACTION Please find more information about the Student Union, activities, and clubs at www.dalastudent.se. Our aim is to encourage interaction between different cultures, and we welcome you to join in the activities organised by the Student Union.
