Adela’s Story • Left school early • Started in Trust as a domestic • Completed an level 2 apprenticeship (working in Health sector) • Secured a HCA post • Progressed to an advanced apprenticeship in Health • Now seconded to Pre Registration Nursing Programme at LJMU as part of Widening Access Scheme

Mark, Neil and Pete’s Story • All working as porters • Transferred roles to HCA positions • Successfully completed Advanced Apprenticeships • All have undertaken a Foundation Degree in Assisting Professional Practice (TAPs) • 2 now qualified as Assistant Practitioners with 3rd to complete Jan 2014

Summary • Staff development culture embedded as part of LHCH Staff Experience Vision • A top down commitment to the Apprenticeship Promise has provided strong support from Managers at all levels • Clear processes on staff progression has increased levels of staff engagement and motivation • Financial support via subsidies provided by NHS Northwest have significantly supported the Apprenticeship Process at the Trust • Need to complete a full evaluation of the apprenticeship process by measuring its impact on Patient and Family Experience
