“White Devil” Pacific, Devils Slide, CA 1947 -Lighting: The lighting in this photo is unique because he uses the natural lighting from the environment. -Composition: I think this photo is unique because the sky and the water is almost the same dark contrast, but the single cloud sets them apart and casts light on the water. -Subject: I think that Minor White wanted to express the beauty and simplicity of the natural surroundings and natural lighting.
“Surf Vertical” Surf Vertical, San Mateo County, California 1947 -Lighting: Once again he chooses natural lighting for his photo. -Subject: He chose the ocean but instead of horizontal he chose to have the photo vertical which is unusual. -Composition: I really like this photo I think its very unique and the angle of this photo sets it aside from others. -Minor White was probably trying use the moon lights refecting on the water to create a really pretty photo.
“White Poplar Trees” Road and Poplar Trees, in the Vicinity of Naples and Dansville, New York 1955 -Lighting: The lighting is very light and the sun is probably off to the side according to the shadows. -Subject: This photo represents a leading line. Because the road goes straight back without stopped. -Composition: The line of trees along the road make the photo very pretty and simple. -Minor White is a very good photographers and likes using the land to express things in his work.
“Barn and Clouds” Barn and Clouds, in the Vicinity of Naples and Dansville, New York 1955 -Lighting: Once more this is natural and he uses the sun to light up this photo. -Subject: A simple barn suggests farmers living out in this pretty landscape. -Composition: The sky looks dark and the clouds are a great contrast. The Shadows cast on the hills in the background also make this photo good to look at.
“Warehouse” Warehouse Area, San Francisco 1949 -Lighting: The shadows on the wall next to the man suggest it could be evening or early morning. And again it’s natural. -Subject: The man is running with a piece of fabric. Its cool looking. -Composition: The warehouse is old looking and we don’t know why with man is running. -This photo is very fun to look at and is certainly interesting.
