  1. Heavy Duty Mechanic By Jared Cornell

  2. Day of a Mechanic • Usually get up early to get to work for 7am for a 7:30-3:30 shift or you might have a shift at 3:30pm-12am • You have your jobs that they give you for that day and you try and get as much as you can done • You get a coffee break, lunch, and another break after lunch

  3. Why am I interested in this? I am interested in this carreer because it’s something I can do with my hands. I used to be a cleanup kid for a heavy duty mechanic shop so I’ve been around mechanics and been around semi trucks before. I’m really fortunate to have been able to work at a shop to get really good experience and to have been able to find out that this is what I want to do!

  4. Education • There really isn’t education to get into diesel mechanics, all you need to have is coveralls and good steal toe boots.

  5. Salary and Future outlook • Salary when I get out of school will be around 18-25$ and hr. After i get 2nd, 3rd, apprenticeship I can make more and when I get my Journey Man I could make 35-90$ an hr depending on where I work. • My future outlook is that I can go work pretty much anywhere. I can go overseas and make lots of money, but I would have to live in a foreign country/city.

  6. Resources • Okanagan College website • My neighbour Matt Pearson (who got me my job at the mechanic shop)
