iQuest 2013 Daniel Knox
Background - Was a Cadet with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office from 2010-2013. - Got interested after doing a few ride alongs - iQuest project was to allow me to continue working on my skills both on patrol as well as general knowledge of law enforcement.
Activities: As a part of my iQuest experience I.. - Rode along with various law enforcement agencies around the East Bay. - Furthered my understanding of California's Vehicle and Penal codes. - Trained myself in S.W.A.T tactics, Self Defense strategies, Firearms, Defensive Driving, and the role of law enforcement in the community. - Worked side by side with my Mentor in order to set a plan for my career.
What I liked: -The ability to do your own thing. -Increased time to partake in activities you normally would not have the time to do. -Limited Supervision. -Introduction to group interaction that improves our ability to function with others.
What I disliked: -Blogging without boundaries. -Not being able to share certain things due to confidentiality. -Not having time sheets similar to Work Experience.
Blogging http://dknox0216.blogspot.com/ Started mid year. No complaints about blogging, maybe more specific with guidelines and better notification on when to blog.
Book No Matter How Loud I Shout written by Edward Humes (1996) - Excellent book describing the problems with the criminal justice system which is still relevant in 2013.
Future - Accepted to all four schools I applied to: SDSU, Sonoma State, Boise State, CSU Sacramento. - Decided on CSU Sacramento. Majoring in Criminal Justice. Hope to focus on either how to detect and combat terrorist behavior or international relations within law enforcement.
Future Continued - While at CSU Sacramento, I hope to intern for the United States Secret Service, Homeland Security, or the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Five Years -Will be finishing up my masters in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento. - Applying to become a part of the United States Secret Service. - Go through the national police academy. Hope to Graduate at the top of my class.
Ten Years - After being sworn in as a secret Service agent, go out of country for a period of deployment to provide security for diplomats of the United States. - Become a part of the President's or Vice President's security detail.
