How was the situation? • American view – in the beginning of 1950s: there are still partisans groups in Baltic states. The biggest and strongest are in Lithuania. There are some existence in Estonia. They don’t believe, that there is no organized resistance movement in Latvia.
How was organized fighting with Lithuanian partisans? • 5 different agencies have been called to take action against Lithuanian partisans • Lithuania was devided by MGB (Ministerstvo gosudarstvennoi bezopasnosti – Ministry of State Security) into 32 MGB districts, led by lietenant colonel or major. Every district consisted 10 communes, in one commune there are from 10 to 300 MGB troops: 45-50 000 men • Latvian situation • Estonian situation
What we do with pupils? • Pupils read the material in groups • Before reading we give them tasks: • To find out the numbers • To find out problems partisans faced • To find out in what ways the Soviets fought against them • Pupils make presentation on their topic
The main aim of this lesson • To show the people under Soviet occupation didn’t give up and took actions against the regime • Don’t underestimate itself – fight for your believes
