Reemployment; • In 2010, 16.59% of over 50s found reemployment. • Up 0.21% from the previous year. • Down 5.67% from its highest point in the last 10 years. • Pay; 50-59 year olds earn on average less than £28,356 per year; compared to 30-39 and 40-49 year olds on £29,004 and £30,443 respectively. In 2010, 25.85% of the UK’s workforce was made up of over 50s; the highest in the last 10 years. • Contrary to the significant increase in jobs vacancies between 2009-2010, 3.75%, reemployment for the over 50s is down by 5.67%. • The number of age discrimination cases brought to tribunal has risen by a third in the past year. • Good News;After 1 October 2011, employers will no longer be able to use the default retirement age (DRA) to compulsorily retire employees.
