  4. Archive Management: Background • Archive Management Requires File Mobility • On-line Access Requires File Stability • Result: URNs = Permanent Names w/ Lookup service

  5. Archive Management: Status • Prototype URN Resolver via CGI script • “Official” Syntax is being developed under IETF • Bibcodes (re: CDS, ADS) are adequate for now

  6. Resource Location: Background • 3 Methods of Access - Search, Browse, Direct (bibliographic) • Direct Access requires knowledge of URN • Require a query service to discover URNs/URLs

  7. Resource Location: Status • Citation Records of Bibliographic Information - URC.0 • Generated automatically at ingest time • SGML-like tags provide full-text and field-based searching using Isite • The result of a search is a “card catalog entry”, including URNs & URLs

  8. Next Steps • EApJ and ADS already link to each other at URN level • Implement URN resolver & URC query service for EApJ • Interoperability development needed to link URC query systems
