Several new titles, for example, will appear in 2004. • Journals are provided in wildly varying formats, from .pdf files to colorful web pages. • Some journals are housed on EBSCO’s servers, others on publisher’s sites, still others on providers like Ingenta. Managing journals is like herding cats. . .

  4. How (and when to use) EBSCO EJS titles: • When you have a citation for which you want to find the article • Current awareness • Browsing through entire issues EBSCO EJS is not very helpful if you try to search it by subject like a bibliographic database such as EBSCO Academic Premier. It is best to think of EJS as a virtual shelf of journals. You need to find the issue which contains the article you want and then find that article.

  5. Links to EBSCO EJS are on the Library’s Online Databases page and the Collections page. Access is currently available only when you are on campus. The first screen is a click-through License agreement

  6. Default Search Screen Browse Journals: Provides a list of all titles available to Bethel College via EJS Find Journals: To look for a specific journal Find Articles: Use only if the journal and/or its table of contents is housed on EBSCO’s servers. My EJS: Not all features of EJS are available at Bethel College. You can register with My EJS so that you can purchase pay-for-view articles.

  7. Browse Journals Screen The default browse is for what BC has full text access to; note that you can also browse all journals at EJS, along with pay-per-view, and citation/abstracts only. Titles are listed alphabetically. See publisher’s site: You must click this link to go to the publisher’s site, where you will find the journal. Current Issue; All Issues: Indicates that EBSCO is storing Table of Contents data. Click the appropriate link.

  8. Find Journals screen Make sure to click the correct radio button for your type of search. “Title begins with” usually works well. “Limit Results” will probably make your search too specific.

  9. Journal of American History page found using the Find Journals search. This title is not housed by EBSCO but at the Publisher’s Site. In order to actually see the journal and its contents, you must click on the “Publisher’s Site (new window)” link.

  10. Journal of American History is found at the History Cooperative Click on the date for the issue you want to view.

  11. Finally! Here is the text of an article from the Journal of American History.

  12. Find Journals search for International Social Work Note that there is no link to the publisher’s site, as EBSCO has the Table of Contents data on its server. The green check mark indicates what is available. We do not have access to all issues of all journals due to how different publishers handle access rights. Click Current Issue Or All Issues To see Table of Contents data.

  13. Table of Contents page for International Social Work (current issue) Click on Open in New Window To see the full-text of the article. In this case, a new window will open and you will be taken to Ingenta, a company that stores electronic journals.

  14. International Social Work at Ingenta First screen showing article summary. Click on “Full text” button. Next screen, which kindly informs you that you have free access to this article. Click on “display PDF” if you want to display the article right away.

  15. International Social Work article (via Ingenta) You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to read .pdf files.

  16. Some journals require user name/password for access. The Journal of Chemical Education is one such title. When you click on the “See publisher’s site” link, you are taken to the journal’s site. EJS displays the user name/password at the top of the screen so that you can log in. User Name and password for Journal of Chemical Education. The password is obscured on this slide because use is restricted to on-campus (and this slide show is openly accessible.)
