What is a Direct Object? A direct object is the object that directly receives the action of the verb.
What is a Direct Object? The direct object answers the question “what?” or “whom?” is receiving the action. For example: Bill has a pen. Bill has what? Bill has a pen.
What is a Direct Object Pronoun? A direct object pronoun replaces the direct object noun.
Placement of Direct Object Pronouns There are two different placements for Direct Object Pronouns: 1. If the pronoun is the object of a conjugated verb, then the D.O. pronoun is placed before the conjugated verb. 2. If it is an infinitive verb, then the D.O. pronoun is attached to the end of the infinitive verb.
Examples 1. Tengo el libro.= I have the book. Lotengo.= I have it. 2. Voy a comprar la camisa.= I am going to buy the shirt. Voy a comprarla. = I am going to buy it. 3. Juan tiene las manzanas. = Juan has the apples. Juan las tiene. = Juan has them.
Practice for Comprehension Paco has it (the homework) in his notebook. Paco la tiene en su cuaderno. Marta wants to buy it for Christmas. Marta quiere comprarlo para la navidad. Luisa needs the homework for her science class. Luisa necesita la tarea para su clase de ciencias.
