Moving Aheadwith the Walker School The Directors’ Meeting September 24, 2010
Agenda • Greetings from the Dean • ACBSP Accreditation Updates • Q&A • Wrap Up, Dean Akande
ACBSP Updates • Bi-Annual Quality Assurance Report • Annual Faculty Professional Development Survey
Thank you to… • IT Department, especially Kathy Marlock and Terri Jones • Pilot testers, from four different pilots: • November 2009 • February 2010 • April 2010 • June 2010 • To you and your faculty for any feedback to make this survey better in the future
The Annual Faculty Survey: Overview • What is it? • Why? • Who needs to complete it? • By when? • Where is it? • What, exactly, do we want you to do?
What is it? And why is it necessary? • An online survey required by ACBSP for continuing accreditation. The data helps document that we have expert faculty. • We need to collect information from every faculty member about his or her professional development and scholarly activities annually. • The survey is fairly user friendly, and walks the faculty member through the questions. Instructions for Directors (IFD), page 3. Instructions for Faculty (IFF), page 3.
Where is the survey? • WSBT Faculty Course Information channel on the Connections portal • Survey link • Instructions for Faculty • Instructions for Directors (Director section) • A copy of these slides (Director section) • If instructors need to import the Channel, instructions are provided (IFF, Appendix A, page 19) IFF, page 5 and page 19
How do faculty gain access? • Faculty are provided access to the survey from CARS • New faculty have access 24 hours after they are entered into CARS by your campus • All “active” faculty have continual access. • Faculty who have not taught for 3 years are removed from the system.
When do faculty complete the report? • Begin the process of survey completion in Fall 2, 2010. • Faculty must complete a survey at least once every academic year in which they teach a WSBT course. • The first time a faculty completes the survey, she should begin with activities dating back to June 1, 2010 OR the date of first hire – whichever is more recent. IFF, page 3
What if the instructor has no updates? • He still must complete at least two sections of the report: • The section at the very beginning of the survey called “Faculty Participation Report – REQUIRED” (every year) • Credentials (includes Personal Information, Academic Affiliation at Webster and Education) and Certifications. (after year one, updates only) • This benefits you, the director, because…. • It will prevent you from having to track down those who haven’t completed a survey by the end of the academic year. • It will ensure that you are abreast of any changes in credentialing of your faculty. IFD, page 5. IFF, page 3.
How do I know who has completed a survey? From the “Faculty Participation Report” -- • Includes those instructors designated by CARS as ‘primary’ for your campus. • provides you with a quick and easy tool to determine who has completed the survey -- as long as the instructor remembers to complete the section marked “REQUIRED” . IFD, page 6
Who is responsible for faculty who teach at multiple campuses? • Each May, the director is responsible for ensuring that all ‘primary’ faculty for her campus have completed the report during the academic year. • So, as a professional courtesy to fellow directors, please request a survey from each instructor who teaches at your campus – perhaps at the time contract is issued. IFD, pages 6, 7 and 11.
Are other reports available to me? • You have access to the following for your campus: • Faculty Participation Report (IFD, page 10) • Details for your Vita (IFD, page 11) • Academic Degrees Earned • Presentations by Faculty • Activities Database Report • See Part 2. How to Run Reports (IFD, pages 12-18)
Do Faculty have access to reports? • Yes, an instructor has full access to the information he entered, as long as he remains an active faculty member. • The “Details for your Vita” report may be useful any time he wishes to update his vita. IFF, pages 16-18
Who has administrative access at my campus? How can I change that access? • As of today, only the campus director has administrative access to this report. • You can request access to the survey for up to two others at your campus: • Send an email to Lauren Kleve at klevela@webster.edu indicating the name of your campus and your designees. IFD, page 10
What do we want you to do? • Become familiar with the information in your packets (faculty and director instructions) • Provide faculty with the information they need to complete the survey. • Let your faculty know that this is an ACBSP accreditation directive that’s not negotiable. • Start the process of survey participation beginning Fall 2, 2010. • Ask faculty to go back to June 1, 2010 when they complete the information.
What do we want you to do? (cont’d) • As a professional courtesy to fellow directors, ask instructors who teach on your campus to complete the survey during the term they teach for you. • In May, check to ensure all of your primary faculty who taught in AY 2010-11 (or current year) have completed a survey. • If they haven’t, please make sure they do – even if they didn’t teach on your campus this year.
What if… …an instructor refuses to complete the survey? • Discuss the situation with your AVP. IFD, page 3
Is there training available for campus administrators? • There are four webinars/online chats scheduled: • Tuesday, October 5 at 10 AM (STL time) • Thursday, October 7 at 4 PM (STL time) • Wednesday, October 20 at 10 AM (STL Time) • Thursday October 21 at 4 PM (STL Time) • RSVP the date of attendance to Lauren (klevela@webster.edu) • Information about accessing the webinar/chat will be emailed to you.
