Midas Validation Tracking (Explanations)Current System • Midas validations included errors and warnings. • Errors are data issues that must be resolved before a plot can be loaded into the database. • Warnings are data issues that are a message to the crews to be sure the data is correct. Warnings do not stop a plot from being loaded to the database.
Midas Validation Tracking (Explanations)Updated validations • Midas now allows a validation to be categorized as a critical warning • Critical warnings require an explanation to be completed. • If a critical warning does not have an explanation, an error is produced when running validations, thus preventing it from being loaded into the database. • Regular warnings now require acknowledgement through a check-box associated with each warning.
Midas Validation Tracking (Explanations) • Explanations are available when running any validations (Ctrl+W,Ctrl+X, Subplot, Plot) • Approvals and explanations are saved to the Midas data file • Loaded to VALIDATION_TRACKING table in the MIDAS schema (RAW, WORK, QRAW, QWORK)
Midas Validation Tracking (Explanations) • Regular warnings require approval (check-box) • Critical warnings require an explanation

Midas Validation Tracking Navigation • Navigating the validations windows, touchscreen, mouse and keyboard • 1) Up and down Arrow keys move the highlighted line • 2) Spacebar toggles the approved checkbox for (W)arnings • 3) E/e/N/n keys bring up the explanation text box for both (C)ritical warnings and (W)arnings • 4) The checkbox can be clicked or tapped to bring up the explanation text box
Midas Validation Tracking Navigation • Spacebar toggles the Approved box for (W)arnings, but does nothing for (C)ritical Warnings. The critical warning text approval box is automatically checked when an explanation is entered. • E/e/N/n brings up the explanation text box for both critical warnings and regular warnings.
Midas Validation Tracking Validations • If critical warnings do not have an explanation, or warnings are not approved (check-box unmarked), then an error is produced when running the plot edit. Plots will not load to the web as a result.
Midas Validation Tracking • Validation Tracking/Explanations has its own screen • Currently it is a read-only screen

Midas Edit Review • The Midas Edit Review is an Access application that allows a user to review the explanations and ensure they make sense given the situation. • Able to check crew understanding of protocol across all 3 states and between Forest Service and contract crews • It also allows the user to categorize each explanation into groups for field solutions and office solution • Field solution categories: No change needed, Data correction needed, New explanation needed, clarified explanation needed or Field notification update needed. • Office solution categories: Correct Data, Add Explanation, Update Midas, Update Field Guide, Analyst Review • If plots are sent back to field crews, then plots are deleted from the Midas tables and reloaded by field crews. • It provides a means to track updated explanations.
