  3. Jonah’s Unhappy Ending • Jonah’s shocking anger at God (4:1-3) gracious – “withholds deserved punishment; gives undeserved blessing” compassionate– “womb love” slow to anger – “long of nostrils” abounding in loving-kindness – “loyal love” relents concerning calamity – 3:10!

  4. Jonah’s Unhappy Ending • Jonah’s shocking anger at God (4:1-3) v2-3: “I disobeyed you because I knew you would mess everything up! You’ve made me a traitor. You’ve ruined my life! I wish I were dead!!”

  8. Why was Jonah Wrong? • Insisted on mercy for him, justice for others Hypocrisy – we all deserve punishment! • Loved that which had little value Foolishness – it’s a little plant, Jonah!! • Loved his comfort more than other’ lives Selfishness – you care only for yourself!

  9. How do we Avoid His Mistake? • Do you desire mercy for everyone? Flagrantly immoral, murderers, terrorists Those who’ve hurt or abused you “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover the prisoner was you.” Lewis Smedes

  10. How do we Avoid His Mistake? • Do you desire mercy for everyone? • Do you love that which has lasting value? • Do you love others more than your own comfort? Will you sacrifice your money? Will you sacrifice your free time?
