A Brief History • First small grains germplasm obtained in 1897 by USDA • explorers • - Maintained for the first half of the 20th Century by USDA • Cereal Investigators (separate for wheat, barley, oat, rice) • - NSGC officially formed in 1948, combining the separate • collections; located at Beltsville, Maryland • Moved to Aberdeen, Idaho in 1988
