Aerial • An aerial is freestyle surfing.

Barrel • Barrel is a hollow inside of a wave.

Carve • To make your board.

Dive • When someone goes under with their board.

Epoxy • A type of surfboard.

Flip A front flip.

Goat Boat • Someone sits down on their board.

Hang Ten • Throw their hands in the air while surfing.

Impact Zone • Where the waves break.

Jacking • A wave condition in which a swell rises and very quickly as it passes from deeper water to shallow water.

Kneelo • A person who rides on their knees.

Layback • A maneuver where the person lays back on their board usually in a cutback

Mushy • A condition where the waves don’t have much energy.

Nose • Front of the surfboard.

Off-the-lip • A re-entry. Turning the board quickly off a wave and falling face first in the water.

Pearl • When the nose of the board goes into the sand.

Quad • Surfboard with 4 fins.

Regular Foot • Surfer who stands left foot first.

Stick • Another word for surfboard

Thruster • The proper name for a three fin board.

Underwater • When you fall and your board goes under water with you.

Volume • When a surfer comes out of the air.

Water • The water.

X-games • Competion in surfing.

Yolo • Yolo you only live once. It connects to surfing because a shark could eat you.

Zulu • Zulu time is used on weather charts. Weather charts play an important role in predicting surfing conditions.
