Membership Types What are the various membership grades? • Member • Twelve or more years experience in the built environment: Education, licenses, work experience • Associate • Any applicant working in built environment industries • Affiliate • Introductory membership for applicants • Age 30 and younger • New to the built environment industry • Student • Students in engineering, architecture, construction or food science academic programs

Membership Advancement Why does a member advance from Associate to Member? • Prestige • Local chapter recognition • Service Society, chapter or regional committees • To qualify for ASHRAE Fellow/other Society awards • You can add Member ASHRAE to your email tag • Allows your chapter to shine • Society recognition in Insights

  5. Membership Advancement Who should I encourage to advance? • Associate with 12+ members years • Associates with a PE license • To advance: • Update member bio online • Send an email to membership@ashrae.org indicating an interest in membership advancement

  6. Membership Transfers & Changes What other types of membership grade changes are there? Students • Student members who are no longer enrolled as full-time students must transfer (SmartStart) to Associate • Students interested in transferring: www.ashrae.org/smartstart Affiliates • Affiliate membership is limited to three years • Is for members age 30 and younger • Automatically transferred to Associate after the three year term • Affiliates can change to Associate early • Contact membership@ashrae.org for assistance • Required to pay the balance difference of the two memberships

Developing Economies Membership What is this and who qualifies for it? • Associates & Members residing in low and lower middle income economies per World Bank • Engaging members globally expands our reach • ASHRAE Handbook CD & Digital ASHRAE Journal • Renewing members residing in designated countries: • Select ‘DC’ in online renewal, or • Select $90 option on print invoice • New members: join online and select ‘DC’ option • Print application at ‘Join ASHRAE’ online
