School Policies
Dress Code • No sleeveless shirts • No bedroom attire • No see-through and/or transparent tops or bottoms • NO SAGGING PANTS ALLOWED. Pants are to be worn at waistline • Failure to comply with the dress code will result in students being sent home to change and penalties.
Dress Code Policy Offenses • 1st Offense: Warning • 2nd Offense: Students will be required to attend Saturday Academy • 3rd Offense: Students will receive one (1) day OSS • Additional Offenses: Principal’s discretion based upon his investigation
Cell Phone Policy Cell phones and other electronic devices (MP3 players, iPods, etc.) that are visible or heard will be confiscated. Students who refuse to give up their phones/electronic devices will receive OSS. Purnell Swett High School does not assume any liability for the loss or theft of any cell phone or electronic device. In the event of theft, students should file a report with the School Resource Officer.
Cell Phone Policy Offenses 1st Offense- Teacher confiscates phone/electronic device turns it into office and student may pick up phone at the end of the day. 2nd Offense- Teacher confiscates phone/electronic device and parent will have to pick up (NO EXEMPTION) 3rd Offense- One (1) day OSS 4th Offense- Three (3) day OSS for each offense

YDS Announcements
The Indian Education VISION volunteer program is accepting applications for Native American students, grades 9-12 who are interested in volunteering in Indian communities. Please a see a YDS for more information
Students who are interested in participating in the culture academy at Indian Education please see YDS for applications. Classes will begin Sept. 24, 2013 and will include drumming, dancing, pottery, beadwork, and also storytelling.
Other Announcements
Studio One Lab announces open auditions for its Fall and Winter productions: “Snow White Goes West.” No prior stage experience is needed. Singers should prepare a short pop-styled song and actors will read from the scripts.
Two Students from the PurnellSwett FFA Chapter were elected Lumber River FFA Federation Officers. The elections were held on Tuesday, September 9 2013 at Fairmont High School in Fairmont, North Carolina.
MyaNichelleDeese, class of 2016, was elected Parliamentarian for the 2013-2014 school year. Her duties will include, ruling on all questions of parliamentary conduct at Federation level meetings.
Nikiya Elizabeth McCollum, class of 2015, was elected Sentinel for the 2013-2014 school year. Her duties will include, assisting the president in maintaining order and taking charge of candidates for degree ceremonies.
The Lumber River FFA Federation includes Robeson and Scotland County FFA chapters. The mission of the FFA is to develop premier leadership, personal growth and career success in the lives of its members.

Governor’s School The North Carolina Governor’s School is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas.
Areas of study include English, foreign language, mathematics, natural and social sciences, art, choral and instrumental music, dance and drama. Applicants must have an aptitude score and an achievement score in the 92nd percentile or higher. (An EOC score in the area of their nomination could also be used.)
You must submit grades, rank, transcript, essays, experience information and two recommendations. Completed applications need to be submitted to your guidance counselor October 1, 2014. For more information, please see Ms. Venega in Guidance. www.ncgovschool.com
Important Dates for Yearbook Photographs On Wednesday and Thursday, Sept 25 and 26, photos for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be taken in the auxiliary gym. It will be the ONLY CHANCE for underclassmen to be photographed for the yearbook.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 1 and 2, senior formal makeups will be taken in the media center. Girls will be taken on Oct. 1 and guys will be taken on Oct. 2. This will be the last chance to take the formal for the yearbook. See Coach Leek if you have any questions
