  2. WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT? Jesus came to build his church, Matt. 16:18 Churches established in New Testament by men guided by the Holy Spirit, 1 Cor. 2:12-13 Churches were established as part of God’s plan to save man, Jn. 3:16; Acts 2:47; Eph. 1:22-23; 5:23; Acts 20:28

  6. Argument: If baptism is necessary to salvation, why wasn’t Paul sent to baptize? (1 Cor. 1:17) “Were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Cor. 1:13) It is implied that they had been baptized, however, not in the name of Paul. Paul’s words of v. 17 are said in reference to the problem of division at the church in Corinth (1 Cor. 1:12, 14-15)
