Myth • Children that are exposed to violent video games are more likely to imitate the actions of the video game character they identify.
Media • Video games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, God of War , Mortal Combat and etc. have shown numerous violent acts that promoted violence in children in the ages 8-16. The news media, there are constant stories of young children acting out fatal acts of violence. • Stories such as: Grand Theft Auto Blamed After Eight-Year-Old Shoots Grandmother. Child Stabbing Grandmother with Sword after a video game.
Media • This myth was also discussed on the popular show; The Dr Phil Show. On the topic called “Children and Violent Video Games.” Where discussed the effects of violent video games on our nations youth.
Counter Argument • In recent discovery Dr . Christopher Ferguson and Cheryl Olson discovered violent video games are not linked to high-risk teens with symptoms of depression or attention deficit disorder that can lead to violent actions. Researchers actually found that playing video games had a calming effect on the youth instead of creating violent behavior.
