India Economy/ lifestyle • India is not wealthy at the moment, but their economy is steadily increasing which might eventually change their classification as poor. • The standard of living in India is not very good. In India today, 75 % of the population lives on less than 20 rupees or 50 cents a day, leaving them with severe poverty.
China Economy / Lifestyle • Like India, China is not wealthy at the moment, but their economy is growing quickly, which will soon make them an economically powerful nation. • China, like India, is a developing nation with a low standard of living.
Gross National Income GNI is defined as the total value produced within a country, together with its income received from other countries.
The Three Worlds • The term "First World" refers to developed, capitalist, industrial countries aligned with the United States after World War II, with common political and economic interests: North America, Western Europe, Japan and Australia. • “Second World" refers to the former communist-socialist, industrial states, (formerly the Eastern bloc, the territory and sphere of influence of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republic) today: Russia, Eastern Europe (e.g., Poland) and some of the Turk States (e.g., Kazakhstan) as well as China. • "Third World" are all the other countries, today often used to describe the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The term Third World also includes capitalist (e.g., Venezuela) and communist (e.g., North Korea) countries, as very rich (e.g., Saudi Arabia) and very poor (e.g., Mali) countries. Applied to India & China: India best fits the description for a third world nation, while China best fits the definition of a second world nation.

InformationRevolution / the Internet USA: Information Revolution (Internet):Comcast, Time Warner and Cox Communications provide a majority of the cable broadband subscribers. The United States has over 67.7 million people subscribed to the top broadband providers, which account for 94% of the market. The 2009 Stimulus Bill, as it is commonly termed, was enacted by the 111th United States Congress and signed into law by President Barrack Obama on February 17, 2009. This bill provides money to create the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce.
Globalization USA: The USA does many things to affect other countries. The most tangible thing we have is the strongest military in the world, but I believe our greatest strength is our freedom. Our freedom of thought has led to the ideas for some of the most useful engineering ideas that make our lives safe, simple and fun.
Outsourcing / G8 & G20 USA: The USA were initial members of the G8 and the G20. The G20 summit had meetings in the USA on 11/18/2008 in Washington, DC and on 9/3/09 in Pittsburgh, PA. The USA has hosted G8 summits in Houston, Williamsburg and Denver. The USA outsources many things from India and China such as electronics, clothing and toys.
China: Information Revolution / the Internet China is working on Developing CNGI (China’s Next Generation Internet), which is a five year plan initiated by the Chinese government with the purpose of gaining a significant position in the future development of the Internet through the early adoption of IPv6 (the next generation of computer language).
China: Globalization Outsourcing / G8 & G20 Globalization: China influences a lot of other countries mostly by exporting all of the products/goods that they produce. Outsource: China receives most of the ideas, layouts and plans of the products they make from the USA. China is good at doing the manual labor for a low price, but their creativity is limited so they get their ideas from the US. G20: China is a member of the G20, but not the G8. They were the chair country of the G20 in 2005.
India: Information Revolution / Globalization Globalization: India has influenced the world in numerous ways. Some of the more well known are the Bollywood movies, the most famous being Slumdog Millionaire. Also the majority of the telephone computer assistants you speak to are Indian. Information Revolution: There has been a great increase in Indian content on the Internet.Many net entrepreneurs have been quick to realize the huge potential of the global market in India, and have made strides in online sales.
Outsourcing / G8 & G20 India: Outsource: India exports many things to the USA such as cotton products/fabrics for clothing, jewelry (diamonds are the most commonly exported), and also things like medicinal, dental and pharmaceuticalpreparations. However, design and direction for these products comes from the USA. The G8/G20: India is very similar to China in terms of G8 and G20. They are not a member of G8, and they were the chair country of the G20 in 2002.
