Food Chain – is the transfer of energy (food) from the producers to the series of consumers. (It is composed of producers, consumers, and decomposers.) The energy decreases as it is passed on from one organism to another.
1.Autotrophs – producers(plants) 2.Heterotrophs – consumers (man and animals) a. First-order/Primary consumers (herbivores) b. Second-order/Secondary consumers c. Third-order/Tertiary consumers d. Fourth-order/Quaternary consumers 3.Microorganisms – decomposers
FOOD WEB - is overlapping food chains
Food/Energy Pyramid shows the amount of energy transferred from producers to several levels of consumers. • The producers make up the base of the food pyramid which contains the greatest amount of energy. • The amount of energy available from food decreases as one goes up to another level.
