How I Do It • Pull up Wiley or Excel on my screen • Record as I set up the problem • Can pause while I move to screens, set up numbers etc. • Try to keep them under 10 minutes – 5 is optimal • Keep them informal • If I make mistakes – I identify them and move on • If possible, I highlight the error and how to avoid it • Highlight the Excel screen as I am working • Crack jokes whenever possible
Process Points • The video moves to I-Tunes • Lag time of 20 – 45 minutes • Teach students how to use I-Tunes • Send them to Commons for technical help • Pointers • Label clearly • Post early enough to be useful • Explain what they will be seeing • Advertise the product
Results • Too soon to confirm trend • Drop rate appears to be significantly down • Homework grades/utilization have improved • The added curve points seem to be decreasing • Need more time to confirm progress • Attendance has improved • We have had some good discussions, questions and even disagreements • I have received • Hand written thank you note • Emails thanking me OR DEMANDING MORE VIDEOS • Favorable comments on my student reviews • Issues • Some students who need them are not using them
Future Improvements • Will post and record Mind Maps • Done on Mind Genius • Need to create better access points for maps • Master Doceri – for creating videos from the IPad • Allows you to mark up screen shots while you speak about them • Will post and record my Smart board class notes for the day • Will cull out and clean up the collection
Conclusions • Making videos is a demanding process • Appears to be paying off in student interest and results • Requires a high level of focus from the teacher • Should be part of a good teaching plan • Camtasia is SUPER EASY TO USE! • THE CLASSROOM MAY NOT BE FULLY FLIPPED BUT I AM TURNING IT UPSIDE DOWN!
