Identify air quality issues that have a direct impact on western states Ensure western concerns are considered in the national debate Purpose of Planning Committee
Representation • Two co-chairs serve 2-year staggered terms • Chair who bows out is replaced every May by a representative of a different state • Participation on monthly calls is high • National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service representatives participate in calls to enhance coordination • Board Liaison position with committee is currently open (Volunteers?)
Monthly Conference Calls (1st Thursday of the month) • Priority Issues • Reconsideration of Ozone NAAQS • Designation and implementation issues with all new NAAQS, including boundary delineation for new planning areas • Pollutant transport issues including regional ozone planning and §110(a)(2)(D) SIPs • Exceptional Events Rule Implementation for Ozone & PM10 • PM2.5 NAAQS Emission Factors for planning after PM10 Surrogate Policy • Oil & Gas air quality impacts, particularly in rural areas • Tracking Regional Haze Plan development, submittal & approval Current Activities
Submitted Comment Letters • Improvements to Exceptional Events Rule EPA Reaction • EPA seeking more feedback on EE Rule improvements
