  2. Persuasive Text • When writing a persuasive text, it is vital that you structure your work properly. • There are many different ways to plan prior to writing your essay. • One strategy which is often used is the TEEL acronym.

  4. Topic sentence What is your main point? • Choose a topic which you are confident with. • Example: Romeo and Juliet’s predicament is inevitable.

  5. Explanation Why is your point important? • Sum up arguments and/or facts. • Use words such as: Therefore, consequently, thus, due to, this means that.. • Explain what it means, this convinces the reader further.

  6. Evidence What is your evidence? • It reinforces your idea in your topic sentence. • The aim is to prove to the reader your point of view. • Show evidence and examples of this issue/statement. • Use interesting quotes/events.

  7. Link How does it relate to your actual topic? • At the end of your writing, link to your prior statement must take place. • Relate to the next topic/paragraph.

  9. STEP ONE Introduction Establishes broader understanding. Offer the reader insight into the text. Introduce characters, themes and highlight the main topic.

  10. STEP TWO Thesis/Argument Initial response to the question/topic. Outline ideas about the question/topic and what you believe to be your response.

  11. STEP THREE Body Paragraphs Take the reader through a series of points to support your argument. Each point must be supported through evidence.

  12. STEP FOUR Revisit the topic Link back to the initial argument and re-state what you intend to prove. Outline how what you’ve written supports your initial response to the question/essay topic.

  13. STEP FIVE Conclusion An overall success of your essay in other sections. This paragraph should complete your argument. This gives the writer the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the reader.
