Laura Motes worked for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for twenty-one years, during which she supervised and monitored shift activities and directed the shift’s patrol activities in ways designed to prevent and reduce criminal activity in the West Precinct.

Laura Motes Long Career in Law Enforcement During her 21- year career with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Laura Motes has taken on many roles in keeping her community safe. For ten years, she was a Police Sergeant in the Uniform Patrol Division in West Precinct. Before that, she spent three years on the Alcohol Compliance Unit/Vehicles For Hire Unit focusing on underage alcohol sales and vehicles-for-hire, such as taxis and wreckers. She began her career as a police officer in the Uniform Patrol Division.
Laura Motes Budding Nurse After 21 years working her way up to Sergeant for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Laura Motes decided to change careers and help people in a different way. She is now studying to become a nurse. She plans on attending the master of nursing program at Georgia Regents University. She worked at the Athens Regional Medical Center for six months in preparation for her studies at Georgia Regents.
Laura Motes Former Cop-Turned Nurse For her entire professional career, Laura Motes chose to help her community of Athens, Georgia and the surrounding area. As a police officer, Motes worked for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for 21 years before she began her training as a nurse at the Athens Regional Medical Center. She hopes to earn a Master’s degree in nursing at Georgia Regents University in nursing beginning fall, 2016.
Laura Motes Georgia Southern Graduate Laura Motes graduated from Georgia Southern University in March 1992 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After she graduated from college, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army and attended Military Officer Basic training. She graduated with honors in early 1993. Motes then decided to join the police force in her local community; she started working for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, where she would rise through the ranks to become Sergeant over 21 years.
