  2. Listen as I read the book what makes day and night.

  3. The Solar System and all its planets are in constant motion.

  4. Each of the planets go around the Sun.

  5. As they go around the sun they spin.

  7. It takes the Earth 24 hours (one day) to spin completely around and it takes 365 days (or one year) to travel completely around the sun.

  8. When one side of the Earth faces the Sun, it is daytime.

  9. Daytime

  10. When the same side of the Earth turns away from the Sun, it is nighttime.

  11. Nighttime

  12. You can only see the sun during the day. But you could see the moon during the night and sometimes during the day.

  13. As the Earth spins part of the Earth faces the sun (the light).

  14. Part of the Earth faces away from the sun or the light. That part is in a shadow or darkness.

  15. What is a shadow?

  16. Shadow: an area of darkness that is created when something blocks light

  17. The pattern of day and night never stops.

  19. In your science notebook answer the question, What makes day and night?

  20. Draw an example of the Earth and sun and show the day side and the night side of the Earth.
