  4. Education • Education is free and compulsory from ager 6-14 which includes primary school through grade 6. • In Junior secondary school you only need to 3 additional classes.

  5. Economy (GDP) GDP per person $1,000 Australia GDP $40,000 GDP by sector: agriculture ( 8.9%) industry ( 24.2%) and services ( 66.8%)

  6. Trade Exports include copra, coconuts, seaweed, and fish. partners are the United States, Belgium, Japan, Samoa and Australia Imports include foodstuffs, machinery and equipment, miscellaneous manufactured goods, and fuel. import partners are Australia, Fiji, Japan, NZ.

  7. Health The average life expectancy in Kiribati is 61 years. The infant mortality rate is around 46.02 deaths to every 1,000 live births. Diseases include Tuberculosis, dengue fever and occasional cases of leprosy and typhoid.

  8. People/Religious/Beliefs • The population of Kiribati is largely Christians with Roman Catholics making up of 52% and 40% Protestants.

  9. Challenges • CO2 pollution is the main cause for the submersion of Kiribati • Global warming is melting the polar ice which accounts for the rising sea levels • It is estimated that Kiribati will be underwater within fifty years

  10. How is the world coming to Kiribati’s Aid? • Australia has funded $28.2 million for the improvement of health, education and living standards in Kiribati. • New Zealand’s $25 million aid will benefit with over population, unemployment and climate change issues
